My journey to midwifery began as a doula and birth assistant supporting women in hospitals, birth centers and at home.

A midwife for over 22 years, I believe in helping families create the birthing experience they desire.

I provide all care in the family's home. What touches my heart most about midwifery is the opportunity for a woman to be a full partner in her care.  She is intentionally engaged.  A woman is not told what to do, rather, she participates in the discussions about her care, considers the options available to her and makes choices that are best for her and her baby.  Informed Consent is the hallmark of midwifery care.

I am married to my sweet husband, Frank.  We have 3 children, 6 grandchildren, 2 dogs and a bunch of chickens.

I have been doing birth work since 1975.  I began as a Le Leche League leader and worked for a post-partum home care agency in Boston for over 10 years.  I was awarded a scholarship to the Massachusetts Midwives Alliance Training program and was one of only a few to actually obtain an apprenticeship with a wonderful midwife, who later hired me as her midwife for her last pregnancy.  I have almost 30 years experience and have attended 1000+ births.

I am co-chair of the Delaware Midwifery Advisory Council.  Access to care for all who choose home birth is very important to me.

Based in northern Delaware, we seek serve as a "guardian at the gate," of normal childbirth.  We want to advise and support women throughout the cycles of life, building a sense of community among clients and their families.

Our clinic is open to provide women with a place of refuge, a meeting place, and a place to share their pregnancy in comfort and joy.  We also offer home-based prenatal care.  Our free initial consultation and sliding scale fee schedule help make our quality care affordable. We believe that midwifery care should be available to every low risk woman who seeks it.

I began attending births in 1979, and opened my own practice in 1987. Through the births of my own 8 children and the countless women who have invited me to be a part of their journeys I have learned to trust in the process of birth and in each woman’s instinctual ability to find her own unique path to birth.

I believe that there is no one “right” path to healthy pregnancy and birth for all women; given support, resources and encouragement, each woman will find what works for her. I am a resource & guide, a life guard, there to encourage, support and monitor, but mostly to wait and allow the labor/birth process to unfold.

I have been a Certified Professional Midwife for 25 years.  I believe pregnancy is not an illness, but a normal process!

I began attending births, providing labor support for the women in my preceptor's care, during my apprenticeship.  That was 26 years and 1600+ babies ago.

I work to help women feel powerful and in control of their birthing process.  I think this is especially important to me because during the birth of my first daughter I felt uninformed and powerless.  For my 2nd birth, I had a homebirth midwife and birthed my daughter in my own time and space.

I have been attending births for over 10 years; first as a doula or labor support and eventually as a care provider.  I have attended births not only in the US, but also in Mexico, the Philippines and in the Amish community.

I believe that birth is normal; that women & their bodies really do work and they are amazing.  I believe that birth is just as much a spiritual event as it is a physical event and my job as a midwife is to help prepare for both.  Midwives are the guardians and watchwomen of birth.  You are the decision-maker, but I will be there to support and hold space for you.   I work as non-interventive and hands off as possible while maintaining a watching and guarding eye on the well-being of both Mother and Baby.

My husband and I have eight naturally born children.  He and I work together to bring updated knowledge of evidence-based practices in childbirth to medical workers around the globe.

I am passionate about a parent's right to become educated and prepared to be able to make informed decisions about their childbirth and the medical provider's responsibility to provide supportive, evidence-based care.

I hold bachelor's and master's degrees in midwifery and am the founder of AMANI Birth.  I am also a midwifery educator at Midwives College of Utah and consult for the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health.

I believe childbirth should be an empowering journey to parenthood, regardless of where or how the birth happens and that knowledge is power and preparation is key.
